“…Out of the regular succession of measured beats rises the wave; the prototype of rhythm grows from the seed of meter….” (Zuckerkandl, 1973, 170)
Rhythm Wave is a community drum and percussion group that meets every 2 weeks at Findo Gask Church Hall, Perthshire. People of different age groups come together to learn and play exciting rhythms on Brazilian and afro-centric percussion instruments. Although we do play among others, Samba drums, we aren’t in fact a ‘Samba band’ but use varied funky beats, fills and patterns in our arrangements that are drawn from other cultural influences.
In Rhythm Wave we all learn alongside our peers by watching, listening and copying and although there is a musical leader, your peer group will help you by showing/teaching the part/techniques to you on your instrument. The group supply all the instruments and you don’t require music reading ability. All levels from beginner to advanced are welcome.
We also perform as a group at community events and festivals and have a track record of highly successful and well acclaimed shows. Highlights are: Glastonbury, Belladrum and T in the Park Festivals plus many community events over the years (Perth Mela, Glasgow Mela and West End Festivals and Aalborg Karneval, Denmark).
Rhythm Wave is a supportive, inclusive group, open to all ages above 8 years and anyone is welcome to come along and try out learning drums and percussion.
